Professor Caryn Chan

Biography

Caryn Mei Hsien Chan is an Associate Professor and Consultant Psychologist at the Department of Clinical Psychology and Behavioural Health, National University of Malaysia. She specializes in behaviour change, health promotion and behaviour science approaches and strategies for the prevention of non-communicable diseases, particularly in tobacco and cancer control. Prof. Chan provides expert advice and support to the Malaysian government and other national and regional initiatives on the design, monitoring and evaluation of health and education programmes. She contributes to national policy and guidelines development facilitating translation of behavioural insights into impactful policy and evidence-based practice. She serves on the technical committee and working group for Malaysia’s WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control and National Strategic Plan for Non-Communicable Diseases. Additionally, she is an executive board member of the Medical Research and Ethics Committee, Ministry of Health Malaysia and Research Ethics Committee of the National University of Malaysia. Prof. Chan is active in public health surveillance and review across Southeast Asia. With a track record of over 100 peer-reviewed publications, she serves various national and international health committees in steering, advisory and technical capacities and is committed to capacity-building, training and mentoring talent in the social and behavioural sciences.
