Dr Catriona Waitt
Biography
Dr Catriona Waitt is a Professor of Clinical Pharmacology and Global Health at the University of Liverpool. She leads the Maternal and Infant Lactation pharmacoKinetics (MILK) group at the Infectious Diseases Institute, Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda. Her research surrounds understanding safe, effective use of medication in pregnant and breastfeeding women and encompasses clinical trials, pharmacokinetic studies, pharmacometrics, social science, bioethics and community engagement and involvement with participatory research. She returns to the UK each year for clinical work as a Consultant in Acute Medicine at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
She obtained her medical degree from the University of Liverpool, and undertook an intercalated BSc in Pharmacology and Therapeutics also at the University of Liverpool. Her PhD investigated causes for mortality in Malawian adults treated for pulmonary tuberculosis, at the Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome Clinical Research Programme in Blantyre, Malawi.
