David Lam
Biography
Dr David Lam has been practicing biosafety in high containment facilities for over 20 years and is currently working as the Assistant Director, Biological Safety at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH). His responsibilities include overseeing the biological safety program as well as serving as an advisor to the biosafety level (BSL) BSL2 & BSL3 diagnostic laboratory facilities and member of the Hospital biosafety committee. He has been involved in the design and planning of new and renovated laboratories and containment facilities in SGH. During the outbreak of COVID-19, using biocontainment principles and practices, he contributed to the creation of a new 50-room isolation containment ward in eight weeks.
Dr Lam has been actively involved in the promotion of biosafety in the Asia Pacific region. From 2005 – 2010, he was a member of the Asia Pacific Biosafety Association (A-PBA) executive committee (EXCO). He was also elected as the vice-president of APBA between 2008-10 and he served as the Vice-president of the Biorisk Association of Singapore (BAS) in 2006-07. Dr. Lam has been invited to conduct biosafety training, workshops and as conference speaker both in Singapore and overseas. He is a member of technical advisory committee with the Singapore Ministry of Health for the development of national biocontainment standards and guidelines.
