Doctor Jaleela Jawad

Biography

Head of Expanded Program on Immunization, Ministry of Health, Bahrain

Dr Jaleela S. Jawad is head of the immunization group in the Ministry of Health, Kingdom of Bahrain and currently working as a public health consultant.

She completed a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from King Faisal University in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, is qualified by the Arab board in family practice and obtained the Bahrain Irish certificate in family medicine. In addition, she completed post-graduate studies in Tropical Medicine and International Health at the London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene and received a diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene from the Royal College of Physicians.

She has extensive experience in the field of immunization and vaccine- preventable diseases (VPD) and attended several WHO workshops and meetings regarding VPDs and immunization. She has also worked in planning for avian and H1N1 pandemic influenza containment activities, conducted outbreak investigation and disease surveillance activities as well as vaccine deployment activities.

Dr Jawad takes part in academic activities at the Royal College of Surgeons, at the Ireland-Bahrain Branch and taught epidemiology of infectious diseases and immunization-related modules as part of the family medicine residency programme. She has contributed to a multitude of immunization and VPDs related publications and guidelines. She is a member of the Bahrain Medical Society and the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine in the United Kingdom. Dr Jawad also serves on several international committees and working groups related to vaccines and vaccine-preventable diseases. In addition, she acts as Vice-President of the governance council of the international association of immunization managers.
