Eduardo Hage Carmo
Biography
Dr Carmo is currently an associate researcher and postgraduate professor at Fiocruz Brasilia, a physician at the Health Department of the Federal District and an ad hoc consultant for the World Health Organization. He was Director of the Department of Communicable Disease Surveillance at the Ministry of Health (2007–2011; 2016–2017), Coordinator of Epidemiological Surveillance of Communicable Diseases (2001–2006) at the Ministry of Health, Consultant at the Ministry of Health (2011–2013), Advisor to the South American Institute of Health Governance (ISAGS/UNASUR) (2011–2013), Superintendent of Inspection, Control and Monitoring of the National Health Surveillance Agency (2014–2016) and specialist in health surveillance at the South American Institute of Health Governance (ISAGS/UNASUR) between 2017 and 2019.
Dr Carmo has experience in epidemiology and public health, working mainly on the following topics: health surveillance, epidemiological surveillance, epidemiology of communicable diseases, International Health Regulations, public health emergencies, epidemics and global health.
Dr Carmo served on the IHR Review Committee regarding the Functioning of the International Health Regulations (2005) in relation to Pandemic Influenza (H1N1) 2009, the IHR Review Committee regarding Standing Recommendations for mpox, and the IHR Review Committee regarding Standing Recommendations for COVID-19.
Doctor Eduardo Hage Carmo holds a bachelor’s degree in medicine, preventive medicine residency program, a master’s degree in collective health and a PhD in public health/epidemiology from the Federal University of Bahia, Brazil.
