Jacquiline Bisasor-McKenzie

Biography

Dr. Bisasor-McKenzie is the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in the Ministry of Health (MOH). She is a graduate of the University of the West Indies and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Natural Sciences (BSc), a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), a Master’s in Public Health (MPH) and a Doctor of Medicine in Emergency Medicine (DM).

Dr. Bisasor-McKenzie has 30 years of experience in the health care system in Jamaica and was the first Emergency Physician to be appointed as a Consultant in the Public Sector. She served as Head of the Accident & Emergency Department at the Spanish Town Hospital from 2005-2014 and Associate lecturer in Emergency Medicine at the University of the West Indies from 2012 until she joined the Ministry of Health as Director, Emergency Medical Services. She later assumed the role of Principal Medical Officer and Director, Emergency Disaster Management and Special Services in August 2016. She was promoted to Chief Medical Officer in 2018.

As Chief Medical Officer, she is the advisor to the Minister and the Government on health matters and is Divisional Head for the Technical Services Division in the Ministry. Dr. Bisasor-McKenzie has received several awards for her outstanding work as the technical lead in the Ministry for the COVID-19 Pandemic. She is also the author and chief director of the country’s Primary Health Care Reform 2019-2030 and the Secondary Care Model for Jamaica 2023.

Dr. Bisasor-McKenzie was awarded the Order of Distinction, Commander Class by the Government of Jamaica, the Queen Victoria Platinum Medal for contribution to emergency medical services and the Honorary Doctor of Sciences Degree from the University of Technology, Jamaica.
