Professor Kai Ruggeri
Biography
Kai Ruggeri is a Professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management at Columbia University, Mailman School of Public Health, USA. He studies fundamental questions of population behaviour and decision-making, primarily focusing on financial and health behaviours. He uses that work to demonstrate how integrating evidence from behavioural science into policies can benefit entire populations. His recent projects involve behavioural policy studies focusing on large-scale data related to economic choices and related outcomes, which highlight the impact of economic environment on decision-making. Collaborating partners include local and national governments, non-profit organizations, industry, and other academic institutions. Prof. Ruggeri joined Columbia in 2017 after founding the Policy Research Group at the University of Cambridge, UK, which he joined in 2011. He also founded and directed the Global Behavioural Science initiative and the Junior Researcher Programme from 2011 to 2024. He is a Visiting Fellow at the Centre for Business Research in the Judge Business School at Cambridge, UK, as well as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and Sciences. Prof. Ruggeri has a PhD in Psychology from Queen's University, Belfast, UK. He is an Officer in the US Air Force/New York Air National Guard.
