Biography

Dr. Strong is currently the Child Health Epidemiology, Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist in the Newborn and Child Health and Development unit of WHO’s Department of Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health and Aging. She received her PhD from the Australian National University in Canberra Australia and has additional degrees in Clinical Epidemiology (University of Newcastle, Australia), Molecular and Population Genetics (University of California, Davis) and DNA technology and Forensic Applications (University of Canberra). She has broad expertise in epidemiology across a wide range of infectious and noncommunicable diseases and her work focuses on causes of disease burden in children and adolescents. Other areas of expertise include monitoring and evaluation, building health information systems, health statistics and data analysis. Prior to joining the WHO, she worked for the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare on health in rural and remote communities and monitoring and evaluation of national breast and cervical cancer screening programmes.
