Biography

Dr Katie Newby is an Associate Professor at the University of Hertfordshire (UK), with expertise in development and evaluation of health behaviour change interventions, particularly applied to public health.

She is lead for the Public Health and Applied Behaviour Change Laboratory (PHAB Lab) at the University of Hertfordshire; joint chief investigator on a National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR)-funded Randomised Controlled Trial evaluating the cost-effectiveness of Wrapped, a sexual health intervention to reduce sexually transmitted infections amongst young people; and co-investigator on the NIHR’s flagship Public Health Interventions Responsive Studies Teams (PHIRST) programme.

She has worked on a diverse range of public health projects focusing on, for example, sexual health, vaccination uptake, smoking, and physical activity. Her key areas of expertise include interventions to change health-related behaviour; digital technology and methods; co-design; risk appraisal; sexually transmitted infections and sexual behaviour.
