Biography

Klaus Cichutek is President of the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut (PEI), Federal Institute for Vaccines and Biomedicines, in Germany, and adjunct Professor of Biochemistry at the Goethe University in Frankfurt. PEI is a research- and science-driven Medicines Agency (human and veterinary vaccines, human biomedicines) reporting to the German Federal Ministry of Health and providing regulatory services to the European Medicines Agency (EMA), European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines and HealthCare (EDQM), World Health Organisation (WHO) and others.

Dr Cichutek completed a 3.5 year postdoctorate at the Molecular Biology and Virus Laboratory, at the University of California in Berkeley, U.S.A. His research interests include retrovirology and gene therapy with 120 PubMed-listed peer-reviewed publications (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klaus_Cichutek). He has served as the Management Group Chair of the European Heads of Medicines Agencies and is presently a member to the: WHO Expert Committee on Biological Standardization (ECBS); International Coalition of Medicines Regulatory Authorities; German Center for Infection Research (DZIF); Loewe Centre for Cell and Gene Therapy Frankfurt; and the WHO Product Development for Vaccines Advisory Committee (PDVAC). Dr Cichutek is a reviewer of research proposals for the Federal Ministry of Education and Research; German Research Foundation; Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft; Helmholtz Association; and the European Commission.
