Dr Masaya Kato
Biography
Masaya Kato is the Programme Area Manager and leads the Health Emergency Information and Risk Assessment unit at the WHO Regional Office for South-East Asia, working within the WHO Health Emergencies Programme. Over the past 20 years, he has collaborated with countries across Asia to strengthen surveillance, response to infectious diseases, and the implementation of the International Health Regulations (2005). Masaya has worked in Cambodia and Viet Nam, as well as with WHO regional offices in the Western Pacific and South-East Asia. Currently, he focuses on promoting multi-source collaborative surveillance, analytics, and risk assessment for emergency decision-making. Masaya holds a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo, as well as an MPH from the Harvard School of Public Health. He happily resides in India with his wife and two children.
