Morgan Kafenzakis
Biography
With an academic career in biochemistry and chemical engineering, Morgan Kafenzakis has worked in the Canadian biosafety and biosecurity landscape for almost fifteen years. She has contributed extensively to the ongoing development and implementation of Canada’s biosafety oversight program, with an emphasis on standard development.
Kafenzakis has overseen the program responsible for the Canadian Biosafety Standard and Handbook, as well as a suite of subject specific Canadian Biosafety Guidelines, Directives, and Advisories. She has also managed the Biosafety Risk Assessment program, conducting classical pathogen risk assessments, evaluating the inherent risks posed by human pathogens in a laboratory setting, and overseeing the development of Canada’s overarching Biosafety Risk Assessment Framework. Kafenzakis is currently a Senior Scientific Advisor with the Office of Biosafety Programs and Planning in the Centre for Biosecurity, Public Health Agency of Canada.
