Ms Margaret Silwimba

Biography

Senior Clinical Pharmacist, University Teaching Hospital, Lusaka, Zambia.

Margaret C.M. Silwimba went to the University of Zambia where she obtained a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree and completed her internship programme at Livingstone General Hospital. She earned a Master of science degree in Clinical pharmacy practice from Robert Gordon University in Scotland. Her professional interests focus on pharmacotherapy and pharmaceutical care planning.

Margaret has over thirteen years’ experience at Zambia’s biggest teaching and referral hospital (University Teaching Hospital, UTH). She is currently pharmacist in-charge of premium services at the UTH. A strong advocate of accuracy and safety in the delivery of pharmaceutical care. She was very instrumental in the establishment of the first ever satellite pharmacy at UTH in an effort to take pharmaceutical care closer to the patient on the ward. The satellite pharmacy concept led to the establishment of satellite pharmacies in different departments of UTH and higher-level hospitals countrywide. Margaret has been honored before with a Zambia Federation of employers’ award as being hard working and dedicated on duty.

In addition to working as a clinical pharmacist for internal and surgical wards, she has significant experience in human resource development as a Pharmaceutical Society of Zambia certified tutor for students and intern pharmacists trained from both local and foreign universities. Furthermore, Margaret has served as a committee member for the University of Lusaka research ethics committee and is part-time Lecturer in the faculty of pharmacy at Lusaka Apex Medical University.

Margaret lives in Lusaka with her husband and three children. She likes swimming, reading and movies.
