Paul Romitti
Biography
Dr Romitti is a reproductive molecular epidemiologist and Professor of Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Toxicology at The University of Iowa. He has 30 years of experience in surveillance of congenital and inherited disorders and in conducting research investigations of these disorders, particularly, birth defects.
He directs the Iowa Registry for Congenital and Inherited Disorders and Iowa Center for Birth Defects Research and Prevention. As registry director, he leads population-based surveillance of birth defects and pregnancy outcomes of emerging threats, along with life course surveillance for birth defects and other congenital and inherited disorders. As center director, he leads epidemiological studies, genomic studies, and studies of gene-environmental interaction effects.
Dr Romitti has served as President of the USA National Birth Defects Prevention Network and Executive Committee Chair for the International Clearinghouse for Birth Defects Research and Prevention. He currently serves on the WHO Technical Working Group on Burden of Birth Defects.
