Professor Pavan Mamidi
Biography
Pavan Mamidi is a behavioural economist and the Director of the Centre for Social and Behaviour Change at Ashoka University, India, with a secondary appointment as Professor (Practice) at the London School of Economics, UK. Prof. Mamidi led the initiative to set up India’s first Nudge Unit at Niti Aayog in New Delhi and subsequently helped set up Nudge Units in the states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. His advisory work currently covers AI in relation to human behaviour, privacy, regulation of technology, and application of AI and behavioural economics to health, child nutrition, and gender. His areas of research interest cover social norms and the social implications of AI. He has extensive experience in empirical research. Previously, Prof. Mamidi ran a behavioural experiments lab for Nuffield College at the University of Oxford in India and held positions at Indian Institutes of Management in Ahmedabad and Bangalore, and the University of Michigan Law School, Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sloan, and Harvard Law School, USA. He has a D.Phil in Social Sciences from the University of Oxford, an LL.M from Harvard Law School, and a BA in Applied Mathematics from Osmania University.
