Professor Rovina Ruslami

Biography

Prof Ruslami is a clinical pharmacologist with the background as an internist specialist by training. Her research focus is on how we can improve TB treatment by optimizing the use of anti-tuberculosis drugs, based on understanding their pharmacological properties.  

Prof Ruslami is an academic staff of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Padjadjaran (UNPAD) Bandung, Indonesia. Since 2018, she is the head of the Department of Biomedical Sciences with 7 divisions including pharmacology division, and at the teaching hospital (Hasan Sadikin Hospital) in Bandung, she leads the Department of Clinical Pharmacology. Her teaching focused on pharmacology, clinical pharmacology, clinical pharmacokinetics, research methodology, and research ethics. 

After completing her PhD at the Radboud University Medical Center, the Netherlands, she continued contributing to science actively by leading and being involved in various research projects, mainly clinical trials. Projects include exploring higher-dose rifampicin for the treatment of TB meningitis, investigating a shorter treatment regimen for latent TB infection using a four-month rifampicin-based regimen with high-dose rifampicin, as well as exploring a shorter treatment regimen for drug-susceptible pulmonary TB.  

She has been awarded the Eijkman Medal by the Royal Tropical Institute, The Netherlands in 2022. Currently, she is a member of the TB Meningitis International Consortium.
