Dr Salama Al Muhairi

Biography

Dr Salama Al Muhairi is a UK graduate with a PhD in Genetics and Molecular Biology. She is the manager of the Research and Development Department in the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority of UAE working on enhancing readiness and response to risks and threats against chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) events. She worked previously as a director of the Veterinary Laboratories in Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority focusing on animal health, zoonotic diseases and emergency response. 

She is a member of national and international committees such as the UAE National Committee for One Health, National Biosecurity Scientific Advisory Committee, the UAE National Laboratories Network on COVID-19 response and a member of the One Health High-Level Expert Panel (OHHLEP) established by the quadripartite organizations. Dr. Al Muhairi is also a member of the WOAH ad hoc group on laboratory sustainability and WOAH’s technical working group on Biosafety Research Roadmap. 

Dr. Al Muhairi led the development of the first biosecurity strategy for the Abu Dhabi Emirate and initiated and currently working with FAO-SNG on developing the first integrated biosecurity index with assessment and monitoring tools. She contributed as an expert with WOAH multi-disciplinary group in developing guidance for national veterinary services to support public health services with COVID-19. Dr. Almuhairi focuses on biosecurity and promoting the One Health approach and she has over 40 publications in this domain.
