Biography

Dr Sinead Delany-Moretlwe (MBBCH PhD DTM&H) is employed as Director of Research at Wits RHI and is a Professor of Global Health and Infectious Diseases in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. She is an Honorary Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of Cape Town.

As a South African-born medical doctor she completed post-graduate training in infectious diseases and epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Her research interests span the intersections between sexual and reproductive health and infectious diseases. She has been an investigator on several phase III trials of new HIV prevention technologies.

Her work also includes research to enhance cervical cancer elimination through screening and vaccination, and the development of novel diagnostics, therapeutics and vaccines for other sexually transmitted infections. She is an active member of several national and global advisory committees on HIV and other sexually transmitted infections and is the incoming HIV Prevention Trials Network co-Principal Investigator.
