Dr Sohail Agha
Biography
Sohail Agha is an Affiliate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at the University of Washington, USA, and a Senior Advisor at the Stanford Behaviour Design Lab and Global Health Visions. With over 25 years of experience in public health and behavioural sciences, he has worked extensively to bridge research and practice, helping hundreds of practitioners integrate evidence-based approaches to improve programme effectiveness.
Dr Agha has designed, managed, and evaluated behavioural interventions across sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia, focusing on immunization, HIV/AIDS, family planning, and maternal and child health. As the founder of the Behavioural Insights Lab, he leads efforts to design and evaluate digital behaviour change interventions. He is also the co-founder of the Africa Behavioural Science Network, where he trains practitioners to generate and apply insights.
He has played a key role in advancing the application of social norms theory to improve health outcomes for adolescent girls and young women, supporting the establishment of global and regional learning collaboratives in coordination with USAID.
Dr Agha holds a PhD in Population Dynamics from Johns Hopkins University, USA, and a BA in Anthropology from Yale University, USA.
