Thierno Balde
Biography
Prof. Thierno Baldé leads the WHO Regional Emergency Hub in Dakar, supporting 27 countries in West and Central Africa. Previously, he was the team lead for operational partnerships at the WHO Regional Office for Africa, overseeing major initiatives such as EMTs, GOARN, and Health Clusters. Dr. Baldé has led in-country and regional emergency operations as in-country and regional incident manager for almost all major public health emergencies which have occurred in Africa over the past years such as cholera, Ebola, Lassa Fever, COVID-19, public health consequences of cyclones and other humanitarian crises. He began his career in academic and research institutions in Canada before joining the Canadian Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross. A medical doctor trained in France and Guinea, Prof. Baldé holds a Master’s degree in management of health services and a PhD degree in Organization of Health Care Services from the University of Montreal, where he also is a professor of global public health, among other universities.
