Ms Uttara Bharath Kumar
Biography
Uttara Bharath Kumar is Senior Program Officer at the Center for Communication Programs (CCP) and an Associate on Faculty at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (BHSPH), USA. She has over 30 years of experience in global public health practice in Africa and Asia on a wide range of public health issues ranging from HIV, TB, and ‘Reproductive, Newborn, Maternal, and Child Health’, to non-communicable diseases, cancers and mental health. Initiatives she spearheaded have won prestigious international recognition. She currently leads CCP’s role on the UK Government-funded, Women’s Integrated Sexual Health (WISH2) project led by the International Planned Parenthood Federation in seven East and Southern African countries. She is also Team Leader for CCP’s work in India. She teaches at BHSPH and has led Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) trainings in 20 countries. She has numerous conference presentations and publications. She was instrumental in founding and mentoring three SBC-focused NGOs - Nalamdana (1993 in Chennai, India), Zambia Center for Communication Programs (2002, Zambia), Center for Communication and Change – India (New Delhi, 2012). Ms Bharath Kumar has an MSc in International Health from BHSPH, USA, and a BA in English from Wellesley College, USA.
