Professor Violet Naanyu
Biography
Violet Naanyu is an Associate Professor at Moi University, Kenya, and a Visiting Scholar at the Aga Khan University, Kenya. She is the Founder of the AMPATH Qualitative Research Core, AMPATH Program, and a co-Founder of the Focus Projects and Research Organization, Kenya. She is a board member of the International Centre for Reproductive Health, a scientific advisory board member of The Irsay Institute, and a facilitator of the Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa. Prof. Naanyu is co-Chair of the Indigenous Populations Special Interest Group for the Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases and a Member of Kenya's National Scientific and Ethics Committee. She is a committee member of the Bioethics Society of Kenya member. She is a social scientist and global bioethicist interested in evaluations to improve research and healthcare in resource-limited settings. Prof. Naanyu has over 115 publications in peer-reviewed journals and has been involved in multidisciplinary research activities undertaken in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Malawi, Mozambique, Gambia, and South Africa. She has extensively used qualitative approaches, community-engaged research, and human-centered designs. Prof. Naanyu trained in Sociology at Indiana University Bloomington, USA, Medical Anthropology at the University of Amsterdam, Netherlands, and Global Bioethics at the Universidad Anáhuac, Mexico.
