Supporting the use of evidence and analytics for health security
Analyzing the wealth of data related to the International Health Regulations and global health security provides powerful insights and helps set priorities to support national health emergency preparedness.
The Evidence and Analytics for Health Security (EHS) Unit, under the Department of Health Security Preparedness (HSP), is responsible for evidence generation and application to strengthen health security preparedness and support decision making.
The HSP strategy guides EHS to provide evidence for action and investment in IHR and health security. Evidence generated by the unit from IHR, non-IHR health data and other relevant sources helps to inform strategic decisions and advocate for optimal policy to ensure effective health security preparedness.
Work of EHS includes:
- Analytics
- Outcome and impact analysis
- The Dynamic Preparedness Metric (DPM)
- The Universal Health and Preparedness Review (UHPR) Metric
- WHO Benchmarks for IHR Capacities
- Health Systems for Health Security (#HSforHS).
- Preparedness economics
- Preparedness research and development
- Support and capacity building for Member States and WHO staff in the above areas.
The unit disseminates evidence generated through case studies, publications, scientific articles, bulletins and presentations. The unit conducts webinars on analytics, training activities and scientific writing to regions, Member States and relevant stakeholders. EHS is a service provider for countries, partners and WHO offices.
The activities of the unit contribute toward meeting the GPW-13 target of keeping "One billion more people better protected". If you are interested in our services and support, please reach us at ehs@who.int
