Moving forward from COVID-19: incorporating healthy habits into your daily life

2 May 2020

This May Day holiday will be a little bit different from years gone by. Vacation trips away and enjoying fabulous meals out with friends and family are at the very heart of this national holiday, and it's when we can't do these things that we really feel the impact of the epidemic on our lives again.

Seemingly overnight, the COVID-19 outbreak forced us to hit the pause button on our regular, busy lifestyles, that were completely interrupted without any warning. Now, everyone is trying to find the balance between enjoying their personal lives while living within the reality of this epidemic.

Adapting to the present circumstances is our only choice, but within these restrictions, another side of life is slowly being revealed.  All the things we said we never had time for, such as spending quality time with family, reading a few books and cooking a good meal, are no longer a dream... they are our reality.

Healthy diet

Food is definitely one of the biggest priorities in life, and restrictions have meant that many people have learned to cook the first dish in their lives over the past four months. Many more have made great progress in their cooking skills and have been busy discovering new recipes. In these unstable times, delicious food isn’t just a basic need of the body, it’s comfort for the soul and a hope for a better life.

As we begin returning to work and school, life is gradually adapting to the “new normal”, and the slower pace of life will become busy again. However, we can maintain the habits we have learned, and continue preparing healthy meals for ourselves and our family during this holiday.

Every day, we can eat a variety of fresh and unprocessed foods to get the vitamins, minerals, dietary fibre and protein our body needs. A well-balanced diet is a key to help build a stronger immune system, lower risk of chronic illnesses and infectious diseases, and maintain good health.
