Malaria cases contracted locally with no evidence of importation or no direct link to an imported case, caused by the species P. falciparum, detected either by RDT or microscopy.

Method of measurement
Data submitted by the national malaria control programmes (NMCPs) compiled by WHO. Data were reported from the laboratory or through case classification forms. Method of calculation: Indigenous cases and species were reported based on the following: total confirmed cases caused by P.falciparum, where no case investigations and case classifications had been carried out; total confirmed cases caused by P.falciparum minus imported cases caused by P.falciparum, where data were available; and reported indigenous caused by P.falciparum cases for countries that were part of the eliminating countries for 2025 (E-2025) initiative and where the number of cases classified equaled the total number of confirmed cases.
