WHO compiles data on the reported number of malaria cases treated with any first line treatment course (including ACTs) submitted by the national malaria control programmes (NMCPs) or, where such data were unavailable, reports submitted to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Global Fund) were used.
Method of estimation:
In countries with missing data one of two approaches was used 1.numbers of ACT treated were used as a proxy if countries indicated that they were the same and/or all first line treatment in the country is ACT 2. first line tx courses were calculated based on the relationship between first line tx courses and ACT treated or first line distributions for previous years.”
