In 2024 alone, WHO and partners provided support to more than 45 graded health emergencies in 87 countries and territories, ensuring that communities in Haiti, South Sudan, Ukraine and beyond continued to receive life-saving health interventions

Impact in 2024: occupied Palestinian territory

WHO completed the second round of the polio vaccination campaign in the Gaza Strip in early November, with more than 556 000 children under the age of 10 vaccinated with a second dose of the polio vaccine.

Impact in 2024: Afghanistan

In 2024, more than 700 000 people across Afghanistan have received medical care and support from health facilities constructed across hard-to-reach areas of 15 provinces. This included the distribution of 330 primary health care kits distributed to the facilities as part of a broader WHO effort to improve health care access in underserved areas of Afghanistan.

Impact in 2024: Ukraine

WHO facilitated the medical evacuation of Ukrainian children receiving care for cancer to Germany, along with their chaperones, as the conflict in the country continues to impact health services. WHO has been working to provide life-saving care for thousands of children across Ukraine.

Impact in 2024: Haiti

WHO is working with the Haitian Ministry of Health, as well as other partners, to provide critical care to the displaced women and girls that have suffered violence from armed groups during the ongoing conflicts in Haiti.

Impact in 2024: Sudan and Southern Sudan

WHO is working across Sudan and South Sudan to protect the health of vulnerable populations and deliver lifesaving treatment including support for severely malnourished children, delivery of emergency medical supplies to those in need across borders, rebuilding health services in communities affected by conflict and working to distribute lifesaving vaccines including the malaria vaccine.

Impact in 2024: Congo

In the aftermath of devastating floods in Congo in which 34 health facilities, 120 schools and more than 64 000 houses were destroyed or damaged, WHO worked to counter the threat of outbreaks of diseases including cholera, support emergency response efforts and deliver essential medicines, life-saving medical supplies and support the continuity of critical health services.

Impact in 2024: Multi-region dengue

WHO has redoubled its efforts to combat dengue in Central America, with cases having risen by 98% compared with the previous year. To respond to this crisis, WHO has deployed strategic measures including training in diagnosis, clinical management, vector control and community engagement.
