EHP governance

The European Environment and Health Process (EHP) is steered by ministers through the governing bodies of WHO and periodical ministerial conferences, to ensure the highest political profile for environment and health issues. To ensure the achievement of the EHP's objectives and support the implementation of commitments made within its framework, the EHP operates through the European Environment and Health Task Force (EHTF).

Coordination and collaboration between the national, subnational and international levels, an improved level of monitoring and implementation, and the necessary political drive are ensured through:

  1. effective national mechanisms, structures and partnerships for the governance of environment and health issues;
  2. the EHTF, the leading international body for implementation and monitoring of the EHP;
  3. the EHTF Bureau, which formulates an intersessional work plan to guide the work of the EHP and steers the preparations for EHTF meetings, including high-level meetings; and
  4. the EHP Secretariat, provided by WHO/Europe.

This governance mechanism was established by the Sixth Ministerial Conference on Environment and Health in 2017.
