Online launch of WHO/Europe report on implementation research for the prevention of NCDs

9 October 2024

9 October 2024, online, 01:00 PM Central European Summer Time (CEST) (GMT+2:00)

At the online event, WHO/Europe will present a new report “Implementation research for the prevention of noncommunicable disease risk factors in the WHO European Region”. The report aims to bridge the gap between research and action, identifying effective strategies to transform health research into practical policies that protect people from noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), including cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and cancer.

Join us to learn the main findings of the report, which shares experiences and lessons learned from pilot projects in Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, focusing on school nutrition policies and primary care interventions for NCD risk factors.

What is implementation research and why does it matter?

Implementation research (IR) is a relatively new scientific approach that studies how health policies and programmes are applied in real-world settings and what factors influence their success. It bridges the gap between research and practice by developing strategies to improve the effectiveness of interventions and address implementation challenges.

IR studies can help countries tackle NCDs, which remain by far the biggest health threat for all countries in the WHO European Region. Together, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes and chronic respiratory illnesses account for 90% of deaths and 85% of disability. Implementing stronger NCD prevention policies can also accelerate countries’ progress towards reaching global health commitments including the relevant United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Report launch event: what to expect?

Participants can expect the event to feature the following:

  • an overview of the report’s key findings and insights;
  • discussions with country representatives and experts on the role of IR in enhancing NCD policies and interventions; and
  • practical examples of IR tools and strategies for effective stakeholder engagement. Discover how IR can bridge the gap between research and real-world application, helping to reduce the burden of NCDs across the Region.

Russian interpretation will be available for the event.
