Report of the thirty-eighth meeting of the European Regional Commission for Certification of Poliomyelitis Eradication: 5–6 September 2024, Copenhagen, Denmark

Overview

The thirty-eighth meeting of the European Regional Commission for Certification of Poliomyelitis Eradication (‎RCC)‎, held on 5–6 September 2024, reviewed annual updates submitted by the Member States of the WHO European Region on the status of the national polio eradication programmes in 2023. The RCC concluded, based on the available evidence, that there was no wild poliovirus transmission in the WHO European Region in 2023 and the events and outbreaks caused by vaccine-derived poliovirus were adequately managed. The RCC also concluded that Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania and Ukraine remain at high risk of a sustained polio circulation in the event of importation of wild poliovirus or the emergence of circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus.
