About 2024 EIOS GTM

The Future of Public Health Intelligence

The 2024 EIOS Global Technical Meeting (GTM) took place from 10-12 December 2024 in Saly, Senegal. This fifth GTM was held in close collaboration with the WHO Regional Office for Africa (AFRO) and the WHO Emergency Hub in Dakar, hosting the GTM Welcome Ceremony.

Centered around the theme “The Future of Public Health Intelligence,” the meeting provided a platform for dynamic discussions and forward-thinking strategies. With the gracious support of the European Commission's Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (HERA), participants explored the future of public health intelligence (PHI), its implications for collaborative surveillance, and its specific relevance to the EIOS initiative.

Over the course of three engaging days, participants took part in discussions and interactive sessions, including on:

  1. Implementing PHI: Showcasing the latest advancements from national to global levels and contributing to the revision of PHI guidance.
  2. Artificial Intelligence in public health: Delving into the transformative impact of AI on health strategies and tools.
  3. EIOS system enhancements: Highlighting the latest updates and innovations within the EIOS system.
  4. Future preparedness: Discussing strategies to strengthen the PHI workforce and better prepare for emerging global health threats.

The 2024 EIOS GTM brought together close to 200 participants from 70 countries, representatives of a diverse global community committed to advancing public health intelligence. This included members of the EIOS Community of Practice, as well as experts from academia, technology, philanthropy, and various other sectors. The 2024 EIOS GTM provided ample opportunity for exchange and networking among participants and underscored the critical importance of collaboration and innovation in shaping the future of public health intelligence, setting the stage for continued progress in the years to come.
