AMR and AMC OPEN CALL

WHO invites Member States to participate in GLASS.

By participating in GLASS, countries commit to build or strengthen their national AMR surveillance systems in order to generate quality AMR surveillance data to meet both local needs and GLASS requirements and to share these data globally. Understanding that surveillance systems are at different stages of development, countries can participate in GLASS even if they have not yet an AMR surveillance system in place.

For any questions related to participation in GLASS, contact the GLASS Team and provide your contact details including affiliation and full address.

Steps for GLASS Country Participation

Step 1

STEP 1: Submit a letter of enrolment

Countries should submit an official expression of interest to the GLASS secretariat: (a) indicating the GLASS surveillance system they are willing to participate to; (b) confirming their commitment to build capacity to collect and share AMR and/or AMC data in line with the GLASS-AMR and/or GLASS-AMC methodologies; and (c) nominating a GLASS-AMR and/or GLASS-AMC national focal point. Countries can enrol in GLASS even if they are at very initial stages of surveillance implementation and/or data collection.

step 2

STEP 2: Register in the GLASS IT platform

The nominated focal point will receive access to the GLASS IT Platform to register and provide country information and data in accordance with the terms of use of the Platform.

Step 3

STEP 3: Build up the national surveillance system

It is recognized that countries are at different stages of development of their national surveillance systems. For this reason, flexibility has been built into GLASS to facilitate the participation of any country at any stage of the implementation of a national surveillance system. Based on country resources and capacities, each country should progressively develop their national AMR and/or AMC surveillance systems in order to be able to generate quality data to meet both local needs and GLASS requirements. Upon request, WHO - supported by the WHO AMR Surveillance CC  Network - can provide technical support to countries in designing and implementing effective surveillance systems.

Step 4

STEP 4: Reporting of data to GLASS

Upon enrolment, countries are requested to report information on the status of the implementation of national AMC/AMR surveillance systems and to maintain these data up to date over the following years. Although countries can start reporting available AMR/AMC data, it is recognized that systems at an early stage of development may not yet be able to provide AMR/AMC data or are capable of providing only limited data. GLASS also invites countries to share information on new types or emergent AMR pathogens upon identification. Please refer to the AMR/AMC/EAR reporting pages for more information.
