Suva, Fiji

An adapted version of the Basic Psychosocial Skills training for Pacific COVID-19 Responders is now available online. The course has been designed by the Inter Agency Standing Committee Mental Health Reference Group and has been adapted for the Pacific Island Countries and territories through a collaboration between World Health Organization Division of Technical Support and WHO Collaborating Centre University of Technology Sydney.

The course is aimed at anyone involved in the COVID-19 response, including community members, health workers and law enforcement. During this three-hour self directed online course, participants will learn how to look after the well-being of themselves and others. Health workers share tips on looking after their own well-being allowing participants to reflect on what they can do to look after themselves. A series of interactive quizzes, videos and activities teach the participants how to support the well-being of others through every day interactions, offering practical support, and how to support people who are experiencing stress. A certificate will be available at the end of the course.

Many people are feeling stressed during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is understandable – borders have closed leaving people unable to see their loved ones, workloads have increased, the COVID-19 virus causes ill-health and people have lost loved ones. Basic Psychosocial Skills provide a way to support yourself, and the emotional well-being of those around you. This training is essential for anyone working during the COVID-19 pandemic.
