Working towards eliminating communicable diseases in newborns

On 30 Sep. – 1 Oct.2019, STI and HIV department of the National Center for Communicable Diseases (NCCD) organized the training of national trainers on “Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV, Hepatitis and Syphilis”. The training module was developed in alignment with the comprehensive reproductive services.

Participant doctors were trained on STIs, HIV and AIDS, syphilis, congenital syphilis, viral hepatitis testing, prevention, diagnosis, care services including post exposure prophylaxis, procedure on infection prevention of health workers and immunization for infants born to HBV positive mother. A total of 38 obstetricians and gynaecologists from 21 provinces and 9 districts, National Center for Maternal and Child Health and Maternal Hospital no. I, II, III participated.

In May 2016, the World Health Assembly endorsed three interlinked global health sector strategies on HIV, viral hepatitis and sexually transmitted infections with targets for elimination of mother-to-child transmission (EMTCT) of HIV, hepatitis B and syphilis. The training was conducted as part of Mongolia’s commitment to working towards WHO’s triple goal of EMTCT in Asia and the Pacific region.
