“Primary Health Care Services Delivered By Soum And Family Health Centers” training and experience sharing activity in Dornogobi province

The Department of Health in Dornogobi province, the Ministry of Health, the Center for Health Development, and the Mongolian National University of Medical Science jointly organized a training and experience-sharing activity on “Primary Health Care Services Delivered By Soum And Family Health Centers” with the technical support of WHO Representative’s Office for Mongolia. The aim of the organized activities was to improve the capacity of primary health care providers in delivering people-centered integrated primary health care services with the reflection of the “Leaving No One Behind” principle during the COVID-19 pandemic. The training and experience-sharing activity was organized within the framework of the Mongolia COVID-19 Crisis Response (MCCR) project funded by the EU Delegation to Mongolia.

A total of 55 health care workers, including 50 health workers (medical doctors, nurses, feldshers, statisticians) from 17 primary health care organizations (soum and family health centers) and 5 specialists in charge of maternal, child, primary health care, and quality care from the Department of Health in Dornogobi province attended the training and experience sharing activity. The training was organized using two types of modalities including theoretical and practical sessions. Dr G.Enkhtsetseg, Head of the Department of Health in Dornogobi province emphasized that the results of the training will be reflected in the improvement of the quality and access to primary health care for citizens. In addition to conducting the training in accordance with the planned program, specialists from the Ministry of Health and Center for Health Development and the Mongolian National University of Medical Science teachers provided job-place training and consultations to obstetricians, paediatricians, and statisticians of the department of health, province general hospital, and soum and family health centers.

The same training and experience-sharing activity on “Primary Health Care Services Delivered By Soum And Family Health Centers” are planned to be organized in Zavkhan and Khovd provinces as part of the MCCR project and reach out to more health care workers for improved accessibility and quality of primary health care services.

About “Mongolia COVID-19 Crisis Response” project

A three-year joint project “Mongolia COVID-19 Crisis Response” was launched on 30 October 2020. The European Union is providing support of EUR 1 million and WHO is providing EUR 62,000 and technical guidance to Mongolia’s health sector. The project will be implemented by WHO Mongolia in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and will focus on three specific areas: strengthening the capacity of the national health system to monitor, prevent, and control the spread and effects of COVID-19; strengthening laboratory capacity at national and sub-national levels; and ensuring continuity and quality of essential health care services during wide-spread community transmission and lockdown.
