WHO and UNICEF are launching a public consultation to guide the content and scope of a Road map on accelerating access to assistive technology. We invite everyone interested in assistive technology to participate in the consultation by responding to a survey. This includes assistive technology users, policymakers, government and non-government service providers, product designers and manufacturers, educators, development partners, researchers, advocates, donors, and more.
In 2018, the World Health Assembly recognized the need for better access to assistive technology through its first resolution on the topic. This led to the 2022 Global report on assistive technology by WHO and UNICEF, which highlighted the need and barriers to access and provided ten key recommendations. Since then, there has been a growing interest in detailed guidance on how to implement these recommendations.
The purpose of the Road map is to provide this detail, to guide efforts to ensure everyone, regardless of their circumstances, can access the assistive technology they need. The Road map aims to unify stakeholders, including governments, organizations, and communities, around common goals and actions. Highlighting the importance of collaboration, innovation, and inclusivity, it will seek to create a shared vision and framework for action, towards overcoming barriers and improving the quality of life for individuals who rely on assistive technology.
