WHO at the Special Session of the United Nations General Assembly in Response to the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) Pandemic

3 – 4 December 2020

On 3-4 December 2020, the UN General Assembly will hold a special session (UNGASS) on the COVID-19 pandemic response. The session will provide an opportunity for Member States, the UN system and other relevant stakeholders to take stock of the current global situation and response efforts, identify policy and operational gaps and forge a path for joint collective action in combating the pandemic.

The two-day event will comprise of an opening segment and a Member States general debate on the first day and interactive multi-stakeholder dialogue panels on the second day. Discussions will focus on equitable access to vaccines as well as socio-economic impact and recovery, including financing to ensure no one is left behind.

WHO Director-General, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, as well as other WHO officials, will take part virtually in the event to champion the urgency and importance of global solidarity and equitable access to vaccines, towards ending the COVID-19 pandemic and rebuilding health systems and economies to achieve universal health coverage and Sustainable Development Goals.
