The Commission of Narcotic Drugs (CND) is the central policy-making body for the UN drug control system, which meets on an annual basis .
The 64th session of the CND will take place in Vienna, Austria, from 12-16 April 2021. In light of the current Covid-19 situation, the event will be in a hybrid format, allowing for online participation.
A vote is expected on the recommendations made by the 43rd Expert Committee on Drug Dependence. Furthermore, various side-events are organized. WHO co-sponsors three side-events during the CND:
- Access to controlled medicines during COVID-19: Meeting the needs of patients around the world – Hosted by Belgium
- Procurement, Pricing, and Access to Controlled Medicines During COVID-19 – Hosted by the International Association for Hospice and Palliative Care (IAHPC)
- Capacity building solutions: Supporting Member States during emergencies and the way forward – Hosted by Switzerland and the INCB Learning Global Programme
