World Hearing Day 2022: launch webinar

2 March 2022 13:30 – 14:30 CET

To hear for life, listen with care

Globally, over one billion people are at risk of hearing loss due to the common practice of listening to music at loud volumes and for long periods of time. Hearing loss caused by loud sounds is permanent; however, it is also completely preventable.

The WHO World report on hearing reports that by 2050 an estimated one out of four people would have hearing loss. It highlights the importance of prevention to reduce hearing loss risk and prevalence. To prevent hearing loss caused by unsafe listening practices, WHO has created the ‘Make Listening Safe’ initiative. As part of this, WHO will launch a set of publications on the World Hearing Day 2022 page. These include:

  • Global standard for safe listening venues and events
  • Be healthy, be mobile. A handbook for implementation of mSafeListening
  • Media brief for #safelistening

The launch webinar will be moderated by Ricky Kej and Lucy Kalantari, Grammy award winning musicians
