WHO, in partnership with Monash University Accident Research Centre (WHO CC), hosted a series of webinars on falls prevention in April 2022 to promote the WHO Step Safely Technical Package for Preventing and Managing Falls Across the Life-Course.
Mirroring the structure of the Step Safety Technical Package, each webinar was focused on a key population at heightened risk of falls: 1) older people, 2) workers and 3) children and adolescents.
Webinar 1: Preventing falls among older people
This webinar investigated the design and implementation of innovative, context-specific falls prevention programmes for older people in community, residential and clinical settings.
Webinar 2: Preventing falls among workers
Held in partnership with the ILO, this webinar shared a range of approaches towards occupational falls prevention - from the development of global standards, implementation of national government initiatives, to experiences from community workplace safety programmes.
Webinar 3: Preventing falls among children and adolescents
Held in partnership with the George Institute for Global Health, this webinar highlighted the importance of tailoring falls prevention initiatives for children and adolescents to local context, highlighting the limited falls prevention evidence-base available
for low-income settings.
Presentations were shared by falls prevention experts from organizations including UNICEF, ILO, the George Institute for Global Health and China CDC, and illustrated approaches to falls prevention and management across a variety of contexts (including
China, Malaysia, Uganda, Nepal, the Pacific, Australia, India).
