WHO Department of Global HIV, Hepatitis and STIs will launch new guidelines on hepatitis C (HCV) service delivery and diagnostics at following International Liver Congress 2022 symposium:
EASL-CDC-WHO symposium: Innovations in hepatitis elimination and launch of WHO HCV guidelines on simplified service delivery and diagnostics
24 June 2022 16:00 - 17:30 UTC (17:00 - 18:30 CEST)
The aim of this special WHO-CDC-EASL symposium is to launch the new WHO HCV guidelines update on simplified service delivery, use of point-of-care (POC) viral load and expansion of treatment to include adolescents and children, and profile country examples of simplified service delivery in action. The panel and audience discussion will address application of these good practices to other settings and countries.
Learning objectives:
- To understand the new recommendation In updated 2022 WHO HCV guidelines, their evidence-base and rationale. These include expansion of DAA treatment to adolescents and children down to 3 years of age; adoption of simplified service delivery (decentralisation, integration and task-sharing); and use of Point-of-care (POC) HCV viral load and reflex viral load testing to promote access.
- To learn about country examples of and lessons learned in the implementation of these interventions. These will include school-based testing to promote case-finding and treatment in children and adolescents from Egypt; decentralisation to primary care, task-shifting to nurses and use of POC viral load instruments in Cambodia; use of dried blood spots and reflex viral load testing in England; and a demonstration project on use of HIV services to deliver hepatitis B care and treatment in Uganda.
To explore application of these good practices to other settings and countries.
