Webinar - Medication without Harm

20 September 2022 15:00 – 16:15 CET
Zurich, Switzerland

Medications are the most widely utilized interventions in health care, and medication-related harm constitutes the greatest proportion of the total preventable harm due to unsafe care, let alone the economic and psychological burden imposed by such harm.

Acknowledging this substantial burden and recognizing the complexity of medication-related harm prevention and reduction, this year the theme for World Patient Safety Day is ‘Medication without Harm’. To support this important agenda, the WHO Nursing and Midwifery Global Community of Practice (NMGCoP)  is hosting a webinar where we will discuss the nursing and midwifery roles around medication safety.

Speakers will discuss the safeguards that organizations put in place to protect their patients from harm, focusing on the issues of accountability, responsibility and blame.

We will hear about solutions to minimize medication errors and explore ways to create a safety culture that supports learning and quality improvement.

We invite you to hear about the Global Patient Safety campaign, and the use of the WHO Global Strategic Directions for Nursing and Midwifery (SDNM 2021–2025) as a pathway to strengthen nursing and midwifery leadership in this area. Additionally, stories from the country level will share initiatives that can be used to provide governance and accountability around safer administration of medicine and a nurse/midwife will present a short case study of an initiative that has reduced medication error at the local level.

A key session will describe the steps needed to promote good communication and a flat hierarchy to develop a culture of safety.

The webinar will then address issues around developing policy and action as a result of dialogue and will conclude with a questions and answers session to allow themes to be discussed that have emerged from the chat and Q&A boxes.

Join us to hear our nursing and midwifery leaders and champions talk to experts in the field of medication safety and take part in the discussions.
