The 147th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly will take place in Luanda, Angola, from 23-27 October and WHO is actively engaged in this prestigious event.
As a vital platform for parliamentary activity, the IPU Assembly provides an invaluable opportunity to foster collaboration and shape global health policies. At this year's Assembly, WHO will be organising two main events which will focus on two key priorities that hold great significance for the future of global health.
1. | Workshop: “Unpacking the Development of the Pandemic Accord”Thursday, 26 October 2023, 9:30-11:00 (local time)This workshop will bring together key stakeholders involved in the ongoing discussions on the strengthening of the global health architecture, focusing on the work of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Body (INB). The event's goal is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the Pandemic Accord's key elements, scope, potential implications, and benefits. Moreover, it will explain the role of parliamentarians in the development of the Pandemic Accord. This interactive session encourages dialogue among parliamentarians, enabling them to share perspectives, concerns, and ideas on this ongoing process. | |
2. | Side event: “WHO's Upcoming Strategy and its Financing”Thursday, 26 October 2023, 13:30-15:00 (local time)In this side event, WHO will present an overview of its 14 General Programme of Work and the associated financing. Attendees will have an opportunity to interact directly with WHO representatives and gain valuable insights into how investments in health can pave the way for a safer, more resilient, and inclusive world, as envisioned in the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This event aims to engage parliamentarians in the critical process of sustainable financing for WHO and WHO investment rounds, making them integral partners in shaping the future of global health. |
