New WHO resources to address the burdens of alcohol consumption through taxation

5 December 2023 15:00 – 16:30 CET
Geneva, Virtual webinar - 15:00 to 16:30 CET

The World Health Organization is organizing a webinar to introduce the WHO technical manual on alcohol tax policy and administration, as well as a new global database and analytical reports on alcohol and sugar-sweetened beverage taxes. The webinar will be held on 5 December 2023 from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM CET.

The manual is a practical guide and a call to action for policymakers and others involved in alcohol tax policymaking to develop strong policies considering each country's unique market structure, tax administration capacity, and political economy. It also includes summaries and case studies of evidence on alcohol tax globally. On the other hand, the global database and analytical reports showcase data collected in 2022 by the WHO Fiscal Policies for Health unit on prices, taxes, and tax administration measures for alcohol and sugar-sweetened beverages globally.

The webinar panelists will include speakers from WHO Member States, the World Bank, IMF, UNDP, NGOs, and academia. The webinar will be available in English and Spanish. We encourage you to register for the webinar and share the registration details with your networks.
