On 15 January 2024, the World Health Organization will launch its Health Emergency Appeal 2024. The event is being live-streamed from this page.
In 2024, almost 300 million people will require humanitarian assistance and protection, with an estimated 166 million people requiring health assistance. Conflict and the climate crisis have affected healthcare and deepened threats around the world, and at least five WHO regions are now impacted by worsening conflict and security including the desperate situations in Gaza, Sudan and Ukraine. For those facing emergencies, disruptions to health services often mean the difference between life and death.
The Health Emergency Appeal will support WHO in responding to ongoing and new emergencies around the world, including 15 Grade 3 emergencies. The launch will highlight the specific needs, objectives and priorities that the Health Emergency Appeal will help WHO meet in 2024 in countries and communities around the world.
To carry on this important work and protect the health of the most vulnerable populations, WHO urgently needs the support of our donors and partners. The Health Emergency Appeal is the result of robust and rigorous plans targeting where funds can have the greatest impact, and with your support WHO will save lives, meet critical needs and help communities emerge from crises better prepared for future threats. During the launch event, the priorities, challenges and opportunities for health in emergency and humanitarian responses will be presented.
