24th April 2024: 9:30 – 11:00 and 15:00 – 16:30
Background
WHO is conducting a series of technical webinars on various climate change and health topics with the aim of building capacity for implementation at country level. These webinars will integrate training, experience sharing, interactive activities and group discussion.
The first series of webinars will explore specific topics related to:
- Conducting a climate change and health vulnerability and adaptation assessment
- Developing a Health National Adaptation Plan
- Accessing climate finance for health
- Climate resilient and environmentally sustainable health care facilities
Description
A climate change and health vulnerability and adaptation assessment (V&A) assesses current and future vulnerability (the susceptibility of a population or region to harm) to the health risks of climate change, and of policies and programmes that could increase resilience, taking into account the multiple determinants of climate-sensitive health outcomes. The results of the V&A are used to ensure climate change and health policies, programmes and interventions are evidence-based and target groups experiencing specific climate-related health risks.
This webinar is the first in a series of technical webinars on conducting climate change and health vulnerability and adaptation assessments. This series aims to provide further training and technical discussion on specific aspects of conducting a climate change and health V&A, including through the sharing of practical experiences.
This webinar, Getting started: conducting climate change and health vulnerability & adaptation assessments, will provide an overview of the WHO approach for conducting and planning a climate change and health V&A and share experiences on getting started on the V&A process. The session includes interactive, small-group activities and group discussion.
