Charting a new path forward for global action against antimicrobial resistance

31 May 2024 13:00 – 14:15 CET
UN Palais des Nations, Room XVIII, Geneva, Switzerland

Seventy-seventh World Health Assembly Strategic Roundtable

2024 is an important year for antimicrobial resistance (AMR) with the second United Nations General Assembly High-level Meeting on AMR taking place in September and the 4th Ministerial Meeting taking place from 15–16 November in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

These events along with the roundtable at the Seventy-seventh World Health Assembly, provide the opportunity for Member States to commit to implementing specific outcome-oriented actions to address the global threat of AMR and chart a new path forward to accelerate global response.

This WHA roundtable will focus on how Member States can build on human health discussions and accelerate the global response to AMR. The strategic roundtable will have Ministers of Health, representatives from partner organizations, as well as survivor advocates providing a forum for dialogue and address specific priorities outlined in the WHO’s strategic and operational priorities to address drug-resistant bacterial infections. The discussion will reflect also on the Global Leaders Group on AMR (GLG) recommendations for consideration by Member States at the HLM on AMR, noting the supporting role of the Quadripartite Organizations and the GLG mandated by A/RES/76/257.

The session takes place at the UN Palais des Nations, Room XVIII on Friday 31 May 2024 between 13:00–14:15 CEST.

The strategic roundtables span the overarching theme of the Seventy-seventh World Health Assembly: All for health, health for all, and WHO Investment Round, allowing participants to reflect on the Organization’s achievements, current and future challenges facing global health.
