Launch of 2030 Global Agenda for Sepsis and World Sepsis Day 2024

13 September 2024

World Sepsis Day 2024 (September 13, 2024)

Every year World Sepsis Day is marked worldwide to raise awareness about sepsis, a life-threatening condition which occurs when the body’s immune system has an extreme response to infection.  Each year, sepsis is responsible for an estimated 11 million deaths. We can and must prevent unnecessary death from this condition.  Advocates arrange events for medical professionals, sporting activities, photo exhibitions, pink picnics, gala events, dinners, and public events such as open houses in hospitals and health care facilities to build a drumbeat to and mark the day itself.

As a World Sepsis Day patron, WHO Director-General, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has recorded a video message to highlight the importance of sustained action to address sepsis.
