The UN Digital Community
Spotlight Series – Digital Health event,
held on January 23, 2025, provided a platform to explore the transformative
potential of digital technologies in healthcare. This session introduced key
concepts in digital health, discussed the role of innovation in strengthening
healthcare systems, and highlighted ongoing UN initiatives in the field.
Management team from the WHO Department of
Digital Health and Innovation alongside other stakeholders, addressed how
digital tools can enhance access to universal healthcare and improve service
delivery. The event emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration in
advancing digital health solutions globally.
WHO management team actively contributed, with Dr. Derrick Muneene, Unit Head of Capacity Building and Partnerships, presenting the Global Initiative on Digital Health (GIDH). His intervention outlined WHO’s strategic efforts to support countries in leveraging digital health for universal health coverage. Additionally, discussions included updates on the WHO Global Strategy on Digital Health, the Global Digital Health Certification Network, and AI-driven health innovations. Through these insights, the session reinforced the need for coordinated action, knowledge sharing, and strengthened partnerships to maximize the impact of digital transformation in healthcare.
