Annual general meeting of the WHO Alliance for Food Safety

The 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM), hosted by the Food Safety and Quality Centre (FSQC) of Oman, will provide a platform to reflect on lessons learned, consolidate achievements, and align on next steps. The meeting will serve to review progress across working groups, discuss emerging needs and opportunities, and reinforce collaboration among members and partners. It will also showcase early implementation efforts and provide space to shape the next phase of the collective work of the Alliance.

Meeting objectives:

  • To review progress and refine the implementation of ongoing and planned activities under the Alliance.
  • To share updates from each working group, including key deliverables and emerging priorities.
  • To reflect on lessons learned from the first year of Alliance implementation and early country experiences.
  • To identify collective priorities and agree on next steps for 2026–2027, including opportunities for collaboration and resource mobilization.

Expected outcomes: 

  • A refined and prioritized Alliance work plan for 2026–2027, reflecting input from working groups and country experiences.
  • Clear deliverables and timelines agreed by each technical working group.
  • Validation of the proposed focused actions to be featured in the first-ever WHO Global Report on Food Safety, based on feedback from breakout groups and plenary discussion.
  • Enhanced collaboration between Alliance members, regional networks, and prospective donors.
  • Documented lessons learned from early implementation efforts to inform future technical support.
  • Reinforced commitment from members to advance foodborne disease surveillance and food contamination monitoring, in alignment with the WHO Global Strategy for Food Safety 2022–2030.
